The motor vessel is equipped with two redundant 256 Kbps data
connectivity links for voice use, Internet and remote control. In order to provide
reliable data connectivity on-board, a pair of tracking satellite transmit/receive
systems are installed.
The satellite system provides for the following features:
- 2x256Kbps bi-directional connectivity;
- Two VSAT Ku-band gyro-stabilized automatic tracking terminals with
1.2m dishes;
- Support for redundancy by simultaneous tracking of two different
satellites and automatic fail-over between the connections;
- Coverage in US and European waters;
-
Two dedicated space segments on two different GEO satellites (15.0W
and 53.0E) are utilized to provide connectivity to a motor vessel. Because
each antenna is pointed to a satellite with different orbital position, a
higher reliability is ensured in case the view to one of the satellites is facing
an obstruction. Modems are configured to utilize turbo coding to provide
minimum BER (Bit Error Rate) even when C/N (Carrier to Noise) ratio is
low. On land, space segments are terminated to two satellite
teleports, one in London, and another one in Cyprus, connected via
dedicated terrestrial fiber links.
